Westwind Community Barn is operated by Friends of Westwind, a 501(c)7 non-profit organization. Friends of Westwind has operated the barn through a lease arrangement with the Town of Los Altos Hills since 1977. Anyone is welcome to join Friends of Westwind, both equestrians and non-equestrians.
Friends of Westwind obtains its revenue primarily from its members: boarders, non-boarding members, and individual and group facility users. Membership includes both equestrians and non-equestrians, residents from Los Altos Hills and residents from other surrounding communities. Friends of Westwind additionally obtains funding through individual and group donations.
Our major annual fundraiser is the Hoedown, a Westwind open house, barbeque and silent auction held every fall. The next Westwind Hoedown is scheduled for Saturday, September 15, 2007 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. It is a fun time for the whole family with equine entertainment, dinner, dancing, and a chance to meet your neighbors.
General-purpose donations are cheerfully accepted throughout the year, and from time to time a special circumstance will focus the Friends of Westwind on raising funds to accomplish a specific goal. For example, in the 1990s approximately $100,000 was raised by members, neighbors, and the extended Westwind Barn community in order to build a new large second arena. The Lower Arena, as it is now called, has opened up riding space for Pony Club practices and horse shows, as well as individual jumping sessions.
